Carrefour – a noun meaning “Crossroads”

Everyone we serve is at a Crossroads ~ The Carrefour Crisis Center provides an opportunity for people to choose a safer road.

Carrefour Crisis Center is an 8 bed voluntary resource for diversion from psychiatric hospitalization or incarceration due to mental health concerns.  Carrefour Crisis Center provides services to all genders.  

The Center is open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year in order to provide support to those in need.

Individual receiving services at The Carrefour Crisis Center will receive intensive and individualized services including:

  • Suicide risk assessment
  • Medication management (including review of current medication, medication administration and assistance in taking medication
  • Therapy
  • Educational groups
  • Case Management
  • Intensive discharge planning

How to connect someone with the Carrefour Crisis Center:

  • The Carrefour Center accepts walk-ins and transfers from other facilities
  • Every individual will require an assessment to ensure they meet admission criteria
  • The Carrefour Crisis Center may also be contacted by phone for a consult if there is uncertainty regarding the appropriateness of an admission

Admission Criteria:

  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Have a diagnosable psychiatric condition which may include a co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder
  • Must be willing to voluntarily receive treatment
  • Must be ambulatory or able to self-transfer
  • Symptoms may include:
    • Thoughts of harming self or others
    • Difficult with functionality such as sleep or relational interactions as a result of their mental health
    • Disrupted mood, disordered thinking or other mental status change
    • Disruption in psychosocial factors that have rendered the individual unable to adequately cope without a supportive and stabilizing environment

Individuals likely to benefit from admission:

  • Can understand and use spoken and written language
  • Are willing to receive Care

Exclusionary Criteria:

The Carrefour Crisis Center will accept individuals who present with aggressive behaviors; however, should the aggressiveness towards others be disruptive to the care being provided for other consumers, an alternative placement will need to be evaluated.

If a consumer is in a medical facility, there are certain parameters with lab work that will be reviewed to ensure medical stability

The following medical concerns will be excluded from admission

  • Recent history of cardiovascular event
  • Recent history of falls with injury, or injuries with loss of consciousness within the last 30 days
  • Recent surgical procedures with general anesthesia or discharge from a medical hospital less than 30 days prior
  • Requires dialysis

 

All individuals will be give a breathalyzer during intake:

  • Intake denied if Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC)>0.29%
  • If BrAC/BAL>0.20% and increasing, the individual will be monitored before admission is approved.

The Carrefour Crisis Center is licensed as a Residential Care Facility with the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services.
