Emergency Department Expansion and Enhancement

Emergency service expanded and enhanced

Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation made a $6.2 million donation to expand the Medical Center’s emergency facilities, nearly tripling the department’s size, from 6,000 to 16,000 square feet.

The expansion includes a larger ambulance garage, nine additional urgent and standard-care bays, an office suite, combined EMS/life flight staff quarters, enlarged waiting, triage, and greeting areas, a new patient drop-off canopy, resurfaced parking lots, and landscaped grounds. The project was completed in three phases to allow the existing department to remain fully operational.

“Our Emergency Department staff treats about 25,000 patients each year. We were outgrowing our former space, and considering the quite literal life-and-death nature of emergent care, we knew this was the time to expand,” said CEO Ken Johnson. “Expanded space means we can more efficiently serve the community now, and in the future.”
