MDsave, an online platform that provides uninsured patients, or those with high deductibles, the option to pay out of pocket at highly discounted prices, is available at three Kansas hospitals, one of which is Hutchinson Regional Medical Center (HRMC).

The seven year old program was established in Brentwood, Tennessee to meet growing demand for price transparency and access for uninsured and under insured patients. MDsave has a presence in 24 states in 120 markets and is expanding at a rate of 20 percent month over month.

MDsave offers medical providers a way to package their services into a single bundled package, and those paying out of pocket are allowed to comparison shop different providers. The new offering has been called the world’s first transactional healthcare marketplace.

Here is how it works:

A patient searches for a treatment or procedure available in the nearest location at MDsave.com. MDsave returns a list of providers in that area with a stated price, location and doctor’s ratings. Participating patients are then allowed to purchase the bundled procedure, which includes all fees, by using a credit card or an online financing plan. Patients are then given a voucher to present at the physician’s office prior to their first appointment.

HRMC launched the service in 2017 and, to date, patients from cities throughout Kansas, including Wichita and the western regions of the state, have utilized MDsave for their medical needs.

Services now included in the offering at HRMC:

Additional services, procedures and treatments will be added in the near future.
